After a couple of other careers that found me doing heavy lifting in healthcare or desk sitting with various government offices, and experiencing the transformative power of massage in my own life, I became a Registered Massage Therapist. I am licensed with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). I have owned and operated my home clinic in the cozy town of Kinburn, just 20 minutes west of Kanata for the past five years.
My aim is to help facilitate your body’s capacity to heal. I provide a hybrid mix of therapeutic and relaxation massage designed to help relieve the sensation of pain, relax sore muscles, reduce stress and tension and improve your overall wellness. I use different modalities/techniques to enhance my treatments; such as Indian Head Massage, Reiki and Hot Stone Therapy, myofascial/active release, gua sha, lymphatic drainage and a bit of Thai massage. I look forward to helping you achieve your wellness goals!
When I am not pursuing my calling in life, I am traveling with my husband, Chad, gardening, cooking and canning in my kitchen, taking long walks with my Boxer, Maskwa, or chilling with my Maine Coon/Norwegian Forest Cat, Teddy.

What is it like at Skén:nen Massage Therapy?
The first thing you may notice is the drive to my home based clinic. It’s quieter, the trees outnumber the people and buildings. When you come to my door, you may be gently greeted by my furry family members. The only area of the house they are not allowed to go to is where I conduct my business in the lower part of my home.
When you venture downstairs, you will see my intake area and treatment room is a large (largest in the Ottawa area!) with a serene, boreal forest atmosphere. I have a Canadian and custom-made electric table that is wider and longer and just more comfortable than most tables. It also heats up, if you need it.
Just know that my aim is to help calm your nervous system with massage therapy. Tapping into this first helps you heal from injuries, reduce muscle tension and stress, improve sleep quality or help soothe anxiety/depression.
Giving you the therapeutic and clinical massage treatment you need in a peaceful atmosphere. I look forward to meeting you and helping you!

Skén:nen; (pronounced ‘Sga:nah’), a word in the Kanien’kéha (Mohawk) language for ‘peace’ or ‘serenity’. The language of my Haudenosaunee (People of the Longhouse, Keepers of the Eastern door) ancestors. What better way to describe how you will feel after a treatment…more peaceful.
I am Mohawk (Kanien’kehá:ka, People of the Flint), turtle clan and my family roots are in Tyendinaga. I also have Dutch settler roots. I often refer to myself as a walking/talking two row wampum belt. But that’s another story. The symbolism of the two rows on that belt was an agreement between the Dutch and the Haudenosaunee to conduct business side by side without interfering with one another.
You should know, the Eastern white pine tree is very significant to Haudenosaunee people. It is a symbol of the peace agreement between the six nations (Oneida, Mohawk, Cayuga, Seneca, Onondaga, Tuscarora), ‘The Great Law of Peace’, that was established more than 500 years ago. They solidified their commitment by burying their weapons under a white pine tree. The four roots at the bottom represent the four directions (East, West, South and North). The story goes that Tuscarora nation were the last to join the other five. Coincidentally, Eastern white pine trees are quite unique because their needle bundles contain five needles each.
