Frequently Asked Questions
Are you licensed?
Yes I am a registered massage therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. I will provide you with a receipt that contains my name, signature and registration number to submit to your insurance provider.
Please note there are a few circumstances when I will not provide a receipt; in the case of a gift certificate, a missed or cancelled appointment for which there has been a 50% service fee charged, or if the client has been asked to leave during a treatment session for harassing/inappropriate behaviour and subsequently charged the full appointment fee.
How do I prepare for my first appointment ?
Please fill out your intake forms before you arrive. Also, with any initial appointment, please expect to spend about 5 to 15 minutes of that appointment to allow for assessment or any orthopedic testing if necessary. This will allow me to devise a treatment plan for you and provide you with a safe and effective treatment.
How old do I have to be to receive a massage treatment?
People of all ages can receive a massage treatment, except in the case of medical issues, like untreated hypertension (high blood pressure) for example. If you are under 16 years of age, it is expected that a parent/guardian will remain in the room during the treatment and/or you have prior written consent from that parent/guardian or doctor. If you are over 16, you give consent for yourself or if need be, your substitute decision maker gives consent for you. Sken:nen Massage Therapy is happy to help everyone regardless of age, ability, etc. However, please note that the treatment room is located in the lower level of my home and there is a set of stairs (12 steps) with a safety railing.
Why do you need my health history?
When you provide me with your health history, you are informing me of what medications you may be taking and what medical conditions you may have that may affect how the treatment is carried out. This information helps me to put together a treatment that is safe and effective for you. In addition, as a regulated healthcare provider, I am required to take your health history and no appointments will be taken without it.
About privacy and confidentiality
Under the law, as regulated healthcare providers, we are required to keep your personal information confidential and secure. Before your treatment, you will be asked about your health history. This includes any past surgeries, injuries, any medications you are taking or medical conditions you may have. It is important to share this information as it will help me to provide you with a safe and effective treatment. Your information is kept confidential, maintained securely and is never shared without your written consent/permission.
What can I expect after my appointment?
After a treatment, you may experience some muscle soreness, light bruising or light headedness. To stave off the soreness and light headedness, I recommend that you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and if advisable according to your health history, take a warm epsom salts bath. If you experience light bruising or muscle soreness that extends beyond 24 hours, please let me know and I will adjust your treatment. However, during each treatment, I will always check in with you to ensure the pressure is appropriate for you.
What if I need to cancel/postpone my appointment?
We all have lives and sometimes stuff happens that is out of our control. If you need to cancel/postpone, a minimum notice of 24 hours is required to allow me time to fill your appointment time. If not enough notice is given, or you miss your appointment, you will be charged half the service fee of your appointment. Of course, you can avoid all of this by rescheduling your appointment right away online or passing on your appointment to a friend or family member.
You can always call or text me at 613-505-4380 or email me at nicolehepworthrmt@gmail.com. If you cancel your appointment without notice a second time, you will be asked to prepay for your appointments . A third cancellation without notice is grounds for termination. Thank you for your understanding and compassion/support for a small business owner who is working at what she loves.
What payment types do you accept?
I prefer to accept cash or e-transfers (send to nicolehepworthrmt@gmail.com). I do have Square available for those who wish to pay by credit card.
Do you follow Covid-19 protocols?
I follow current medical advice as given by the provincial government and my licencing body, College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). Masks are optional currently (as of Nov. 25/22). You may wear one or not. I will wear one if you ask me to. My vaccinations are up to date.
As a general policy/rule, if you feel at all unwell (fever, chills, nausea or other symptoms indicative of an oncoming illness) please stay home and reschedule with me asap.
By the same token, if I am unwell, you won’t be seeing me and I will reschedule your appointment time.
This is all to keep us healthy and to continue enjoying massage treatments uninterrupted by viruses, etc. More importantly, it will help curb the spread of any viruses (cold, flu, Covid, etc.) to people we love and people we don’t know who are very vulnerable (i.e. immune compromised people of any age).
Zero Tolerance Policy

In addition, if a client is intoxicated, is verbally abusive towards the therapist or threatening their safety, they will be asked to leave right away. The client will also be responsible for the full payment of the session in order to compensate for the time booked.
