Frequently Asked Questions

Are you licensed?

Yes I am a registered massage therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. I will provide you with a receipt that contains my name, signature and registration number to submit to your  insurance provider.
Please note no receipt will be given when a gift certificate is used for payment or a client has been discharged in the middle of a treatment session for harassing/inappropriate behaviour. In the case of a missed or cancelled appointment for which a cancellation fee has been charged, a receipt stating “no show fee” or ” cancellation fee” will be provided.

How do I prepare for my first appointment ?

Please fill out your intake forms before you arrive. Also, with any initial appointment, please expect to spend about 5 to 15 minutes of that appointment to allow for assessment or any orthopedic testing if necessary. This will allow me to devise a treatment plan for you and provide you with a safe and effective treatment.

How old do I have to be to receive a massage treatment? Do you treat children?

Yes I have treated children from as young as 7 days old up to 17. Currently I treat from age 5 and up. I can refer you to a colleague if you are looking for treatment for babies/toddlers. Most people of all ages can receive a massage treatment, except in the case of medical issues, like untreated hypertension (high blood pressure) for example. If you are under 16 years of age, it is expected that a parent/guardian will remain in the room during the treatment and/or you have prior written consent from that parent/guardian or doctor. If you are over 16, you give consent for yourself or if need be, your substitute decision maker gives consent for you. As mentioned, I am happy to help everyone from age 5 and up, regardless of ability. Please note my treatment room is located in the lower level of my home and there is a set of stairs (12 steps) with a safety railing and tread mats.

Why do you need my health history?

When you provide me with your health history, you are informing me of what medications you may be taking and what medical conditions you may have that may affect how the treatment is carried out. This information helps me to put together a treatment that is safe and effective for you. In addition, as a regulated healthcare provider, I am required to take your health history and no treatments will occur without it.

About privacy and confidentiality

Under the law, as regulated healthcare providers, we are required to keep your personal information confidential and secure.  Before your treatment, you will be asked about your health history. This includes any past surgeries, injuries, any medications you are taking or medical conditions you may have.  It is important to share this information as it will help me to provide you with a safe and effective treatment. Your information  is kept confidential, maintained securely and is never shared without your written consent/permission. Read more…

What can I expect after my appointment?

After a treatment, you may experience some muscle soreness, light bruising or light headedness. To stave off these post treatment symptoms, I recommend that you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and if advisable, according to your health history,  take a warm epsom salts bath.  If you experience light bruising or muscle soreness that extends beyond 24 hours, please let me know and I will adjust your treatment. However, during each treatment, I will always check in with you to ensure the pressure is appropriate for you.

What payment types do you accept?

I accept cash or e-transfers (send to nicolehepworthrmt@gmail.com). I also have Square available for those who wish to pay by debit or credit card.

What if I need to cancel/postpone my appointment?

We all have lives and sometimes stuff happens that is out of our control. If you need to cancel/postpone, a minimum notice of 24 hours is required to allow me time to fill your appointment time. If not enough notice is given, or you miss your appointment, you will be charged the FULL service fee of your appointment plus HST. You can avoid this by rescheduling your appointment WELL before the 24 hour timeline  and/or passing on your appointment to a friend or family member.
You can always  call or text me at 613-505-4380 or email me at nicolehepworthrmt@gmail.com. If you cancel your appointment without notice a second time, you will be asked to prepay for your appointments, you will no longer be able to book online and you will need to book directly with me by calling , texting or emailing. A third cancellation without notice will result in you being discharged as a client.  Thank you for your understanding, compassion and support for a small business owner who is working at what she loves.

What if the weather is bad?

If inclement weather is expected, the kind that is unsafe for driving, I am texting you to reschedule. Particularly during a winter storm, the roads may not be safe to drive. In this case, I will text you and provide you with alternate appointment times.
Besides, you want to enjoy the lasting feeling of massage treatment and not undo it all because you were gripping the steering wheel, full of tension, all the way home.

What if I am sick?

As a general policy/rule,  if you feel at all unwell (fever, chills, nausea or other symptoms indicative of an oncoming illness) please stay home and reschedule with me asap.
By the same token, if I am unwell, you won’t be seeing me and I will reschedule your appointment time. Illness is an acceptable reason and you will not be charged for cancelling under 24 hours.

This is all to keep us healthy and to continue enjoying massage treatments uninterrupted by viruses, etc.  More importantly, it will help curb the spread of any viruses (cold, flu, Covid, etc.) to people we love and people we don’t know who are very vulnerable (i.e. immune compromised people of any age).

Zero Tolerance Policy

I am a healthcare provider of therapeutic massage in a safe space for everyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, culture, religion, etc. . The utmost respect is given to all clients who understand and respect the therapeutic boundaries of the client/therapist relationship. Any sexual misconduct, gestures, suggestive remarks, comments or advances, are cause for immediate termination of the session and any future appointments with Nicole Hepworth, RMT.
This same policy applies if a client is intoxicated, is verbally abusive or threatening, they will be asked to leave right away.  In addition, any racist comments/behaviour, violence, bullying or hate speech towards members of the LGBTQ1+ community is also cause for immediate termination of the appointment. The client will also be responsible for the full payment of the session in order to compensate for the time booked.

Is there parking?

Yes there is. As it is my home, you are welcome to park anywhere on the driveway, and it’s free.

Does massage hurt?

No, your massage treatment does not need to cause pain or discomfort to be effective.  If you experience any pain or discomfort, please tell me and I will stop or adjust the treatment to suit your needs. I will do my best to communicate with your during your treatment to uncover what pressure works best for you. After all, it is your treatment.

Do you provide deep tissue massage?

My opinion on this is strong and clear and it may ruffle some feathers, but deep tissue is not a modality . It is a marketing ploy to  charge people more for a treatment. Take the two words ‘deep’ and ’tissue’. Most techniques therapists do during a treatment, tend to go deeper than the layers of skin and have an effect on the deeper tissues in the body.
Deep tissue is convoluted,  outdated, ego-based, toxic logic, “if it hurts, it works.”
Soreness during or after a massage is not a reliable indicator of effectiveness. The real marker of a good massage over time is improved sleep quality, increased mobility, reduced pain, better recovery and a more balanced nervous system.  Based on that and my anatomical knowledge, precision and technique, my treatments have been very effective for many people. However, I am not for everyone. In fact, it’s impossible to be everything to everyone. That, and deep tissue is not a thing, but deep pressure is something. If you need deep pressure, we can determine that together during treatment.

I am self conscious about….

I have seen everything. Take a deep breath. You are amazing.

Do you have gift certificates?

Yes, absolutely! Please click here.
